A gooseneck trailer features a long, curved neck that extends over the pickup truck’s tailgate and connects to a ball hitch mounted in the truck bed, typically above the rear axle. This positions the tongue weight further forward than a bumper-pull hitch, improving weight distribution, stability, and maneuverability with heavy loads. Unlike a fifth-wheel trailer, which uses a hinged plate, gooseneck models use a standard ball coupler. Most trucks require aftermarket hitch installation.
